Roger Poynter, a former police officer, was the official driver whenever royalty visited the Island. He drove Earl Mountbatten to his official engagements on several occasions.

Roger was also the official royal driver when HRH Duchess of Kent came to officially open Earl Mountbatten House, as it was then known, in 1982.
